Christian Education classes for parishioners of all ages are offered, and we welcome adults interested in joining our teaching staff. As you read this site, please remember that adults have the opportunity to teach and to learn. Dates, times and places are always noted in the Sunday bulletin insert. All classes below are ongoing from August through May. If you are interested in learning more about any of the St. Thomas’ education ministries outlined below, we encourage you to contact us.
Adult Classes that revolve around the Bible and the traditions of the church are offered on Sundays and throughout the week. Participants can strengthen their personal relationship with God and develop relationships within the St. Thomas' family.
Sunday morning offerings begin at 9:00 a.m. Choose from a Lectionary Bible Study and Discussion, based on the day's readings, Nooma, thought-provoking DVDs and discussion, or Cafe Doming, for a cup of fresh coffee, doughnuts and fellowship.
Children's classes are offered at 9 a.m. each Sunday for parishioners ages 3-years through 5th grade.
Preschool and elementary age classes use Gospel Light curriculum. They learn about God and His Word through hands-on, age appropriate activities that engage their curiosity. In addition, kids learn biblical truths and how to apply them in their young lives.
Twelve adults completed the Education for Ministry theological studies program in May 2006. The four-year course is offered through the School of Theology at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. Additional interest may prompt the formation of another EFM group at St. Thomas'.
Women's Bible study is an opportunity for women of the parish to study the Bible, enjoy Christian fellowship and explore their faith at weekly meetings each Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. (September through May).
Baptism classes are scheduled as needed to prepare parents, godparents, and baptismal candidates, when appropriate, for the sacrament of Holy Baptism.
Communion classes are held at 9 a.m. on Sundays in the spring of each year. Second grade is the traditional age for the class, in which children and their parents are invited to study.
Inquirers classes traditionally are scheduled on Sundays, beginning in February and running for approximately six weeks. For those who want to know more about the church and life within our community of faith, this class covers a variety of subjects, including the Bible, church history, the Book of Common Prayer, liturgy, sacraments, Christian formation, the Episcopal Church and the Diocese of Southwest Florida, stewardship, ministries of St. Thomas' and spiritual retreat. Participants are not required to be confirmed.
Embedded in the Christian tradition is the idea of a retreat, a time to go with others to share religious learning, exploration and contemplation. Dates, times and places are noted in the Sunday bulletin insert.
